15- We see things from the author's perspective in this chapter as he climbs devil's thumb. He finally reaches the top after nearly destroying his tent and considergin going back to boulder empty handed. Once he climbs back down, he stumbles upon a man and his family in a small boat. Jon soon realizes that not everyone cares about him or his adventure to the top of devil's thumb. It was such a big accomplishment to him, but in reality nobody lost sleep over his endeavor. We also see how his father meets and ironic death that permanently scars Jon for life. The lesson here is that a major accomplishment to us somebody else couldn't care less about.
